Welcome to our Wikispace page: Mexico,Central America, and theCaribbean Islands.
We are sixth grade Team P at DuBois Area Middle School in DuBois, Pennsylvania.
We have created this wiki space to help our students explore Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean Islands.
This is a cross-curricular activity covers material from each of our subject areas: Social studies, science, English and math.
Recently we completed a unit insocial studies researching Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean Islands. This wiki space goes into more detail about the geography of these twenty-nine countries.
It also shows animal research information we gathered in science class. Students were responsible for researching an animal that lives in Mexico,Central Americaor on the Caribbean Islands. Students then created a diarama to show the environment which the animal lives. You can find a picture of each student's diorama on their animal page.
Animal research was done as a combined effort between English and science classes. Through the English connection, students have been learning appropriate researching and referencing skills. They have also been studying a unit on speeches. The podcast that can be found on the animal pages was created in Englishclass as a final project to wrap up the speech unit.
Finally, in math classes, students were practicing their graphing skills. Student created climate graphs that can be found on the individual country page. The graph is used to represent the average temperature and precipitation of the Mexician, Central American or Caribbean county compared to the average temperature and precipitation of DuBois, PA.
Enjoy learning about Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean Islands through our wikispace!
